The Great Wall

The Great Wall is a wall that is north of Beijing. The wall is made out of stone. It was built on mountains. It has been there for about 2,000 years. It was used to protect a state in the warring period in China. Lots of people died making the Great Wall.

Forbidden City

Forbidden City is the city within a city at the Center of Beijing. It was the home of Chinese Emperors from Yuan Dynasty (1271 - 1368 AD) to Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911 AD) or it was also called Emperoral Palace. So it was forbidden for ordinary people to go in. Now it is a musuem open to everyone who pays 60 yuans (or 20 yuans if you are a student).

I arrived Beijing on August 7 - the day before the opening of Olympic Games. All main streets were dressed with flags and flowers. People were running across the streets between a mix of bicycles, cars, and buses. (The buses are long in Beijing). Walking in Beijing is often a live or death situation.
