Test your Latin: Pope Benedict 16th Resignation Letter (one of the most important text in 700 years)

BOLLETINO N. 0089 - 11.02.2013

Summer of 2010

New England is the best for the summer. Why fly south if we have anything here. I met Daniele in the sailing camp - he came from Rome, Italy. Lucky me, I biked, hiked, wind surfed, and got on a cable car, but I did not take any airplane this summer. These are the places I have been:

- Old Orchard Beach, Maine: the only amusement park on beach front in New England, fireworks every Thurday;

- Portland Head Light House: the most beautiful light house/museum I've ever seen, and…

ICA - Contemporary Arts

Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA)

Dec. 12, 2006 - Boston

The Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) has unveiled its new building on the redeveloping South Boston waterfront, an eye-catching glass-clad structure the museum and city hope will become a landmark and a draw for visitors.

This four-story, 65,000-square-foot museum is the first new art museum to be built in Boston in nearly 100 years. Dec. 11 was the grand openning. People waited for more than 4 hours to get… 继续

Langston Hughes

From Busboy to a Poet

February 1, 2007 - Email from Washington DC

My dad went to Washington DC last week, and mentioned his conference was held in the northern part of DC near the National Zoo. One of the hotels he stayed is Wardman Park Hotel, where Langston Hughes was a "busboy" in the 1920's. You may ask who is Langston Hughes? Why are you talking about him now?

In 1925, the prominent Midwestern poet Vachel Lindsay gave a reading at the hotel to which people of… 继续

Read Only One Line

Richard Peck Likes to Read in Bookstores

March 31, 2007 - Natick, MA

I met Richard Peck today at a bookstore in Natick, Massachusetts. He was on a "booktour" for his new book: "On the Wings of Heroes." He told us a lot of stories about his writing experience and he signed his book and a poster for me and my sister.

One of the lessons he said was "you cannot judge a book by its cover," because he did not like the cover pages of his books. He showed the different… 继续

Spelling Bee

Spelling Bee - You don't have to like it to win

May 31, 2007 - Washington DC

I watched the live TV show of Scripps National Spelling Bee contest with my family. I was so impressed by the final 59 spellers from 286 who started the competition yesterday. I was so glad that Evan O'Dorney from Danville, California was the last one standing and gave out the winning word, "serrefine." At age 13, he is the youngest champaion in the 80-year history.

He won a big trophy… 继续

The Summer Palace

In the north of Beijing, there is a big park called Summer Palace. It was used by the emperors as their resort in the summer. The Summer Palace used to be called the Garden of Clear Ripples. The Summer Palace was burned down two times, but over the years people rebuilt the park and protected its landscapes.

In the Summer Palace there is a lake called Kunming Lake. In Kunming Lake there are boat rides. Near the south of Kunming Lake is a place called Bronze Ox, it shows an ox made of… 继续

The Great Wall

The Great Wall is a wall that is north of Beijing. The wall is made out of stone. It was built on mountains. It has been there for about 2,000 years. It was used to protect a state in the warring period in China. Lots of people died making the Great Wall.

When we got to the Great Wall of China, we started walking south. I thought the ground was going to be flat, but it went up and down. Then, we got to a tower and went inside of the tower. On the sides were three places where cannons… 继续

Forbidden City

Forbidden City is the city within a city at the Center of Beijing. It was the home of Chinese Emperors from Yuan Dynasty (1271 - 1368 AD) to Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911 AD) or it was also called Emperoral Palace. So it was forbidden for ordinary people to go in. Now it is a musuem open to everyone who pays 60 yuans (or 20 yuans if you are a student).

One of the gates leading to the Forbidden City is Tian An Men. Tian An Men means the Gate to Heavenly Peace in Chinese. The Forbidden… 继续

Postcard from Beijing

Dear Friends,

I arrived Beijing on August 7 - the day before the opening of Olympic Games. All main streets were dressed with flags and flowers. People were running across the streets between a mix of bicycles, cars, and buses. (The buses are long in Beijing). Walking in Beijing is often a live or death situation. The cars and taxies do not stop for pedastrions. So we really have to look out when we go out. These days only half of the cars are on the road, because the government… 继续

My Postcard from Shanghai

Dear Friends,

I have been on Vacation for 6 days. China is very crowded.

There are a lot of people and many high-rise buildings.

The food is good but the weather is very hot here.

I took a ride on Maglev (max 431 km/h) from Pudong Airport to

Shanghai's New Business Center.

I stayed in the house of my great aunt's and visited another great aunt in the hospital.

I have visited the longest bridge in the world, Donghai Bridge, 32.5-km long

over the East China… 继续

Appreciation of Music - I like my strict teacher
